Mackenzie is 4 months old today! Oh what a joy and privilege it is to be the one chosen to be her mama! I cannot look at her without smiling and just kiss and snuggle up to her all the time. She is just the sweetest and happiest baby! She seriously smiles all the time! She has been such an easy baby for the most part! Thankfully she is doing really well right now! Growing, thriving, and making everyone in our family even happier. We love this girl so much!!
Her last CF appointment was on December 22nd. She weight 13lbs 4oz which was 50th percentile. Her doctor and dietician were very pleased with her growth. She is still exclusively breastfed and thankfully I have not had any issues with my milk supply so far.
Her stools had started to show signs of malabsorption (greasy appearance, more frequent), so we increased her enzymes from 2 to 3 capsules per feeding (18,000 units) which puts her at the high end of dosing. (She is taking Creon, the same medicine her sister has always taken.)
She has had terrible reflux. It just worsened over the past week so her doctor added a new medicine for GI motility (erythromycin). It’s also an antibiotic but used in small doses helps move things through the intestinal tract. And the small dose doesn’t cause any issues with antibiotic resistance so it is safe to use long term.
So her medicine regimen now consists of 3 enzyme capsules with every feeding (so 15 per day), Prevacid once a day, Erythromycin 3 times a day, vitamins once a day, and 1/8 tsp of salt a day. Plus chest PT (pats) for 20-30 minutes twice a day.
New milestones (because its always so exciting to watch your children learn something new…and it’s important too!):
She started rolling from her tummy to her back a couple of weeks ago. (At 3 1/2 months)
Stands on her legs when you pull her up and thinks it’s funny when you say “Soooo big!”
She giggles when you tickle her armpits.
Grasping rattles, reaching for toys, putting everything in her mouth, chewing on her hands and my fingers.
Nursing 5 times a day.
She has been sleeping through the night for a month or two but this past week has started waking up around 4:45 am. I hold her and she goes right back to sleep.
Goes to bed around 7:30-8:30pm and wakes up around 7:30am.
