Meals and meds on the run

January 28, 2016

Kelsie got a Snackeez for Christmas and it was one of her favorite, most talked about gifts! I find it to be pretty handy myself! Snacks on top, drink on bottom, and both have a lid. One container that’s practical and fun. (Ok, I sound like a commercial now!) But I really do love this thing especially after realizing how wonderfully it doubles as a pill holder for our meals on the run. This morning we were running behind for school, which actually isn’t that different than most mornings, but today I told Kelsie I would stop and get her a jelly biscuit at the new McDonalds that just went up on our route to school. I have a love/hate relationship with this new convenient but unhealthy temptation. It is a good way to get high fat foods into my child though. So as we were rushing out the door, I realized I needed to grab all of her medicines. Then I saw the Snackeez…perfect! Throw those pills in there, fill it with a drink, and out the door. No need to pass back a handful of pills while in the drive thru which will inevitably be dropped by one of us. I always have to wait for her to take them before I can hand her more and it just takes a long time! All of those extra steps seem like eternity when you’re already running late. It also makes it easier for Kelsie to take them since they sit nicely in that container until she’s ready for them. I have also loaded this thing with snacks, wrapped the pills in Saran Wrap (so they don’t fall to the bottom), and put them on top of her snack while running errands or on the way to dance. It works nicely to already have her enzymes available to her especially when I’m driving and she’s wanting a snack. It’s always difficult to open the bottle and pass the pills back along with the snacks and a drink as I’m driving down the road.  So until she can carry her enzymes in her pocket or her purse this is a great little on-the-go solution for my 4 year old!

Proud moment of independence

Proud moment of independence

I am so proud of Kelsie tonight. There are many, many reasons but tonight, I am especially thankful for her helpfulness and her independence. Nathan has been out of town so I have been running things on my own this week. So this evening, as I went upstairs to give M her bath and put…

Perfectly YOU!

Perfectly YOU!

Three years ago, we started planning for you. We started looking at options. We didn’t want you to have CF. We knew there was a chance if we went the natural way. But we heard of other options that might ensure you wouldn’t have it. We prayed, we read, we talked to doctors, to our…

Swallowing enzymes!

Swallowing enzymes!

Video of Kelsie taking her enzymes BIG BIG BIG day in our house! Kelsie learned to SWALLOW HER ENZYMES WHOLE tonight! This is such a HUGE victory for a CF mom!!!! The closest thing I can equate it to for non-CF parents is potty training. But even bigger! For the past 4 1/2 years, I…

CF checkup- our first double.

CF checkup- our first double.

Yesterday Kelsie and Mackenzie had their first double CF visit. After being there for over 4 hours and watching Kelsie go through a VERY traumatic experience getting her throat swabbed for a routine sputum culture, we all left feeling exhausted and emotionally drained. It was the saddest thing to watch Kelsie fight her hardest to…
