I am Kimberly. I am married to my husband of 10+ years and we have two precious little girls, both of whom have Cystic Fibrosis (CF). This blog is my way of sharing our story, documenting what I am learning along this journey as a mom to two young children with CF, as well as keeping family and friends updated with how we are doing. It is also a reflection of my great love for my children and a space for me to share the joys, adventures, and challenges of motherhood.
I write about my kids a lot – because 1) I think they are pretty awesome 2) I think kids are cute and funny and make people smile and 3) taking care of them is what I do every day. But in addition to highlighting the wonderfully mundane mom moments that any mother could relate to, I also hope to share how we incorporate all that is required of managing CF into our daily lives, how I strive to give my girls a normal childhood despite the daily therapies and fear that is associated with CF, and how I try to maintain joy and optimism as their mother in light of the gloomy presence of this disease. So for those other CF parents that may be new to the game, I hope this place can be a resource for some of the many questions going through your head. I’ve been there and I remember questioning everything from how to give my infant enzymes to what kind of childhood I should expect for my child. I don’t claim to know everything about Cystic Fibrosis. In fact, I try to focus on the stages we’re in today and avoid looking too far in the future. But during my 5 years taking care of my child with this disease, and now repeating these steps all over again with my second, I do feel I have quite a few tips and solutions to share that might be helpful for others going through this for the first time.
Along the way, my posts will inevitably reflect the emotional struggles that wax and wane in the heart of a CF mom. I’m a pretty happy and optimistic person, and try to put a positive spin on even the hardest parts of my life, so hopefully you will find this blog to be positive and encouraging. But I’ll admit that the CF part can be hard at times and, like anyone in my shoes, I still fall victim to the heartache it can impose. Some days it really gets to me, other days it’s just something else I have to do.
So I welcome you to share in our life story as it unfolds. And if you are interested in keeping up with my blog, the easiest way is to put your email address in the “Subscribe” box below and you will receive a notification when I make a new post.
